What happened
Following the completion of its landing at Mariscal Sucre Airport, the aircraft encountered unexpected mechanical issues. These complications prevented the crew from being able to decelerate the plane within the available runway length. As a result, the aircraft overran the end of the runway and eventually stopped several dozen meters past the threshold.
Despite the impact of the excursion, all 38 occupants were successfully evacuated from the vessel without injury. The incident resulted in the aircraft being declared a total loss due to damage sustained during the overrun. Following the recovery process, the airframe was relocated to the Museum of the Ecuadorian Air Force located in Quito.
Findings
Investigations into the event determined that the primary factor leading to the inability to stop was a failure within the electrical system.
