What happened
During the final approach to Kinshasa-N'Djili Airport, the flight crew encountered challenging meteorological conditions characterized by heavy rainfall and significantly reduced visibility. Upon touchdown on runway 06, the aircraft encountered areas of standing water on the runway surface. Following this contact with the water, the crew lost control of the aircraft, causing it to veer toward the right side of the runway.
As the excursion continued, the aircraft's undercarriage was lost. The movement ended when the plane came to a stop in a nearby grassy area. There were no injuries reported among the four occupants on board. While the crew and passengers escaped the incident safely, the aircraft sustained damage that rendered it a total loss.
Findings
- The presence of heavy rain led to the accumulation of water on the runway.
- The aircraft encountered standing water during the landing roll, which contributed to the loss of directional control.
