What happened
During a positioning flight intended to transport oil rig personnel for the Burma Oil Company to Portuguese Timor, an aircraft encountered severe weather conditions. The crew was attempting to land in Broome amidst heavy monsoon rainfall.
Upon touching down on the runway, the aircraft became uncontrollable. The plane veered off the paved surface, resulting in significant structural damage as it lost its engines and undercarriage. Despite the severity of the excursion, all three crew members escaped the wreckage without any injuries. The aircraft was subsequently declared a total loss.
Findings
- The landing occurred during periods of intense monsoon rain.
