What happened
During the approach phase to Denpasar-I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali, the aircraft was flying at an altitude higher than required for the established glide path. In an attempt to correct the glide slope, the captain performed an overcorrection. This maneuver resulted in the aircraft descending toward the runway at an excessive rate.
As the aircraft reached the runway surface, it maintained a nose-up attitude and impacted the ground with a vertical acceleration of 5 g. Following the impact, the crew executed standard deceleration and braking protocols. The aircraft successfully vacated the runway and proceeded to the gate, where all passengers and crew members disembarked without injury. No fatalities or injuries were reported.
Findings
Post-flight inspections conducted by maintenance technicians identified extensive damage to the fuselage. Due to the severity of the structural impact, the aircraft was declared a total loss and deemed beyond economical repair.
