What happened
During the final approach phase of flight, the crew committed multiple errors that resulted in the aircraft maintaining an excessive altitude as it passed over the threshold of runway 09. Despite this deviation from the proper glide path, the pilot-in-command elected to proceed with the landing attempt.
The aircraft subsequently made contact with the runway surface approximately 1,800 meters beyond the threshold. Due to the extended distance traveled before touchdown, the crew was unable to decelerate the plane within the remaining runway length. This led to a significant runway excursion where the aircraft overran the paved surface and entered a mangrove area.
The impact with the terrain caused the airframe to break into three distinct sections and resulted in the loss of the undercarriage. While all 75 occupants were successfully evacuated from the wreckage, the incident resulted in some injuries. The aircraft was a total loss.
Findings
Investigations into the accident determined that the primary factor was the incorrect approach configuration maintained by the flight crew during the descent.
