What happened
During an approach to Silchar Airport, the flight crew encountered severe weather characterized by intense turbulence. As the aircraft was descending, it experienced a sudden nose-down movement before impacting a field situated approximately 56 km west of the airport. The impact resulted in the total destruction of the airframe. There were no survivors among the 24 fatalities recorded on board.
Findings
Investigations into the accident determined that the crash was caused by a structural failure within the port center section of the aircraft. This breakdown occurred while the plane was navigating through a thunderstorm. The damage was the result of aerodynamic loads that surpassed the ultimate design limits of the airframe's structure. Investigators were unable to confirm if the crew had implemented appropriate flight procedures for managing heavy turbulence.
