What happened
During an approach to Lyon-Bron Airport, the flight crew encountered heavy fog and degraded visibility. While performing the final approach, the pilot in command descended below the safe altitude, leading the aircraft type to strike a chestnut tree. The impact caused the plane to overturn in a field situated in Saint-Just-Chaleyssin, approximately 15 km from the threshold of runway 34.
Following the collision, a post-crash fire broke out, resulting in the total destruction of the aircraft. The accident resulted in five fatalities, consisting of three crew members and two passengers. No survivors were reported from the wreckage.
Findings
- The primary factor contributing to the accident was the pilot's descent to an insufficient altitude during the final approach phase.
- Adverse weather conditions, specifically the presence of fog, significantly impacted visibility during the landing sequence.
