What happened
During the approach to runway 15 at Vitoria da Conquista Airport, the flight crew failed to maintain the necessary altitude for a safe landing. As the aircraft was on short final, it struck a small mound situated a few meters before the runway threshold. The force of the collision caused both main landing gears to be detached from the airframe.
Following the initial impact, the aircraft traveled approximately 300 meters along the runway surface before veering toward the left side. The vessel eventually came to a stop in a grassy area roughly 35 meters from the runway. During the excursion, the right engine caught fire. Despite the structural damage to the aircraft, all 38 occupants were able to evacuate the scene without injury. The aircraft was subsequently determined to be a total loss.
Findings
- The primary factor in the accident was the crew's failure to recognize an insufficient altitude during the approach phase.
