What happened
During an arrival from Huai'an-Lianshui Airport, the flight was performing an approach to Shanghai-Hongqiao Airport amidst weather conditions characterized by light rain. Upon landing on runway 18L, the crew attempted to apply brakes; however, the aircraft drifted toward the left side of the runway and exited the paved surface.
As the aircraft moved onto the unpaved area, the nose landing gear failed. The movement continued for several dozen meters as the plane slid across the soft terrain before finally stopping. There were no fatalities among the 49 occupants, all of whom were able to evacuate the aircraft without injury. The aircraft type sustained damage that rendered it a total loss.
Findings
- The incident occurred during the landing phase while the aircraft was transitioning from the runway to the adjacent soft ground.
