What happened
During a routine local training session at Gilgit Airport, a crew was performing a series of touch-and-go maneuvers. Upon completing a touchdown, the pilot-in-command made the decision to cancel the takeoff attempt while the aircraft was traveling at 90 knots. Following this decision, an emergency braking procedure was applied.
Despite the application of brakes, the aircraft could not be halted within the available runway length. The resulting overrun caused the plane to lose its undercarriage before finally coming to a stop. While the aircraft sustained damage that rendered it a total loss, all three crew members managed to exit the wreckage without any injuries.
Findings
- The takeoff was aborted at a speed of 90 knots, which was below the established V1 speed of 96 knots.
- The primary factor in the accident was the inability to stop the aircraft within the remaining runway distance following the sudden decision to abandon the takeoff.
