Landing gear collapse during arrival at Dubai Airport

No fatalities • Dubai, United Arab Emirates • Landing (descent or approach)

A landing gear failure caused an aircraft to veer off the runway at Dubai Airport, resulting in a write-off but no injuries.

What happened

During the landing phase at Dubai Airport, the right main landing gear of the aircraft failed. This structural collapse caused the plane to skid for several dozen meters along the runway surface. Following the skid, the aircraft veered toward the right side of the runway, eventually coming to a stop in a nearby sandy area.

Despite the severity of the excursion, all 205 occupants managed to evacuate the aircraft without injury. The impact and subsequent movement resulted in the aircraft being declared a total loss, as it sustained damage beyond repair.

Findings

  • The primary event was the collapse of the right main landing gear during touchdown.
  • The aircraft's trajectory led it off the paved runway into an unpaved sandy area.
