What happened
While performing a takeoff roll on runway 34 at Jeddah-King Abdulaziz Airport, the flight crew received notification from air traffic control regarding a fire involving the left main landing gear. Upon receiving this information, the captain initiated an immediate rejected takeoff procedure. The aircraft was successfully brought to a halt within the available runway distance.
Following the emergency stop, all 273 occupants were able to evacuate the aircraft without injury. While there were no fatalities, the aircraft sustained significant damage during the incident and was subsequently declared a total loss.
Findings
