What happened
The incident occurred while the aircraft was on final approach to Santiago de Cuba. The flight crew encountered deteriorating meteorological conditions, specifically heavy rain and significantly reduced visibility. Unable to maintain a safe trajectory under these circumstances, the three-engine aircraft impacted the slope of a mountain situated near Palma Soriano, north of the city.
All individuals on board perished in the accident. The fatalities included both members of the flight crew and two passengers, resulting in a total of four deaths. This event marked the first fatal accident involving Cubana de Aviación since the national carrier was established in 1929.
