What happened
On the day of the accident, a twin-engine IAI Arava 201 departed from Shell Airport at 12:51 local time. The aircraft was conducting a local training mission and was carrying a total of 22 people, consisting of a crew of three and 19 paratroopers.
Approximately one hour after takeoff, the pilot contacted ground personnel to report that the flight would be returning to its base because of worsening weather conditions. Shortly after this communication, the aircraft began an uncontrolled descent. The plane eventually crashed into a wooded area. The impact resulted in 22 fatalities, with no survivors reported among the crew or the paratroopers.
