Accident Details
A four-engine aircraft, after an uneventful flight from Krasnoyarsk, landed at Yakutsk Airport. Following touchdown, as it rolled along the runway for approximately 250 meters, it collided with an ambulance that was crossing the main runway.
Sequence of Events
The impact completely destroyed the ambulance, and its three occupants sustained serious injuries. The aircraft continued for a short distance—dozen yards—before coming to a stop. None of the aircraft's occupants were injured, but the aircraft was deemed damaged beyond repair.
Aftermath
Emergency services responded to the scene. The runway was temporarily closed following the incident. The aircraft remained at the location where it came to rest.
Probable Cause
The official investigation determined that the ambulance driver decided to cross the runway without prior permission from the tower.
