What happened
The twin-engine aircraft departed Vienna-Schwechat Airport for a scheduled service to Zurich (Dübendorf). The flight carried four passengers and two crew members. While approaching Constance, the left engine failed. In response, the crew reduced altitude in an attempt to execute an emergency landing. During the final turn, completed at an altitude of approximately 150 feet, the aircraft banked to the left, stalled, and impacted the ground in an open field. The airframe was destroyed upon impact, and all six occupants were killed.
Findings
The official investigation attributed the accident to engine failure. It concluded that the crash resulted from a loss of flying speed while operating on one engine. At the time of the stall, the aircraft was executing a left turn with its undercarriage extended. The low altitude prevented any possibility of recovery.
