A twin-engine aircraft crashed into a snowy field near Susuman shortly after takeoff, killing all seven occupants on board while returning from a failed departure.

What happened

The crew was conducting a rescue operation for the Ministry of Interior, traveling from Susuman to Zyrianka. Shortly after leaving the ground, the left engine ceased functioning. In response, the pilot applied full power to the right engine, but this unit also failed. With both engines inoperative, the flight team decided to attempt a return to Susuman. The aircraft subsequently lost control and impacted a snowy field in Berelyokh, approximately 10 kilometers from the departure point. The impact destroyed the airframe, resulting in the deaths of all 7 people on board.

Findings

Investigations indicated that maintenance work had been recently completed on the right engine. It appears the aircraft was not subjected to a test flight following these repairs before being cleared for the mission.

Probable cause

The accident resulted from the simultaneous failure of both engines during initial climb.
