What happened
At 08:10 local time, an aircraft departed from Mumbai-Challapati Shivaji Airport's Runway 27, bound for Baramati. Approximately eight minutes after takeoff, the crew established contact with Baramati. As the flight progressed to within 30 nautical miles of the destination, Pune approach released the aircraft, instructing the crew to descend under visual meteorological conditions at their own discretion, as Baramati operates as an uncontrolled airfield. Upon inquiring about local weather, the crew was notified of calm winds and visibility of approximately 3 km.
During the initial approach to runway 11, the crew performed a go-around because the runway was not visible. Following a second attempt to land on runway 11, the crew again reported that the runway remained obscured from view. Although the crew eventually reported seeing the runway and received landing clearance at 08:43 local time, they did not acknowledge this instruction. Roughly one minute later, the aircraft type crashed short of the runway threshold and caught fire. The wreckage was discovered in an embankment measuring 8 to 10 meters in height near the runway. There were five fatalities among the occupants of the aircraft.
Findings
- The crew failed to acknowledge the landing clearance provided at 08:43 local time.
