What happened

Following a ceremony for Armed Forces Day at Jakarta-Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, a four-engine aircraft was performing a return flight to Bandung. The flight was transporting 122 military personnel. Shortly after departing from Jakarta, approximately one minute into the flight during the initial climb phase, the crew notified air traffic control of an emergency involving engine issues.

While the crew was being cleared to perform an emergency landing back at the departure airport, the aircraft experienced a loss of control. The plane entered a stall and subsequently struck a building that served as the headquarters for the Department of Labour. The impact resulted in a massive loss of life, including 133 fatalities among the passengers and crew, along with two security guards stationed at the building. Only one passenger from the aircraft survived the accident.
