Accident

On the morning of the accident, a four-engine aircraft departed Timika-Moses Kilangin Airport at 0535 local time, bound for Wamena. While approaching Wamena, the flight crew encountered marginal weather conditions. The aircraft descended through several cloud layers before impacting hilly terrain at approximately 0613 local time, about four minutes before its estimated time of arrival. The wreckage was located less than 2 kilometers southeast of Runway 33 threshold.

Aftermath

The aircraft was destroyed by the impact forces and a subsequent post-crash fire. All 13 occupants on board were killed.
