What happened
A flight departing from Jakarta-Halim Perdana Kusuma Airport, transporting Indonesian military personnel and their families, crashed while attempting to land at Madiun-Iswahyube Airport. During the final approach phase, the aircraft struck four residential buildings before coming to rest in a nearby rice paddy field.
The accident resulted in the deaths of 98 occupants and two individuals on the ground, totaling 100 fatalities. Additionally, 14 occupants sustained serious injuries during the impact.
Findings
Investigations into the crash indicate that the crew did not maintain a sufficient altitude during the descent. The primary factor in the accident was the failure to recognize the low altitude of the aircraft during its approach to the runway.
