On August 28, 2019, an An-2 aircraft, registration RA-40389, was engaged in aerial chemical treatment of sunflower fields near the village of Selektsionny, Kursk Region. The mission involved applying a desiccant to agricultural fields as part of a verbal agreement between the aircraft owner and an agricultural cooperative.
Following maintenance and refueling with chemical liquid and gasoline, the pilot completed several flight segments throughout the day. During the eighth flight of the day, which commenced at 13:18:20, the aircraft struck the treetops of a forest belt located at an altitude of approximately 12 to 15 meters. Following the collision with the trees, the aircraft impacted the ground.
The aircraft sustained significant damage during the accident, though no fire occurred. The pilot was not injured in the crash, and there were no reported casualties on the ground. Prior to the flight, the pilot had performed operational maintenance and refueling, and the aircraft had been loaded with 1200 liters of chemical liquid for the mission.
