What happened
During an aerial exhibition at Chernoye Aerodrome, an Antonov AN-2 was performing a demonstration flight to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the aircraft type. While attempting to align with the grass runway, the pilot-in-command executed a sharp left-hand turn. During this maneuver, the aircraft lost sufficient altitude and struck the terrain with its left wing. The impact caused the plane to skid approximately 180 meters from the initial contact point, where it subsequently caught fire. The wreckage was completely destroyed by the post-crash fire. There were two fatalities among the crew members on board.
Findings
- The aircraft was in a low-altitude flight phase during a steep turning maneuver.
- The aircraft descended too low during the turn, leading to the wing strike and subsequent impact.
