Accident Overview
A crop-spraying flight operating from the airstrip of Kolkhoz im. Zhdanova in the Aravan district of the Osh region ended in a crash after the crew mishandled the fuel system. The mistake caused the engine to flame out during flight.
Sequence of Events
Following the engine failure, instead of preparing for a forced landing in an open field, the crew attempted to restart the engine. The aircraft subsequently lost altitude and collided with trees adjacent to a house. The impact destroyed the roof of the house before the aircraft came to rest 15 metres further on and caught fire.
Fatalities
Both pilots were killed in the accident.
Probable Cause
The official investigation determined that the probable cause was poor judgement on the part of the crew following a fuel selector error in flight.
