What happened
A flight traveling from Berlin-Schönefeld Airport was performing its final approach to Warsaw-Okecie Airport when the accident occurred. After receiving clearance to land, the aircraft continued its descent toward runway 33.
Approximately 46 seconds after the landing permission was granted, the four-engine aircraft experienced a stall while flying at an altitude of roughly 60 to 70 meters. The plane subsequently crashed into a snow-covered field situated 1,335 meters before reaching the threshold of the runway.
The impact resulted in the total destruction of the airframe. There were 33 fatalities among the occupants, with no survivors reported from the crew or passengers.
Findings
Investigations into the crash determined that the primary factor was a loss of airspeed leading to an aerodynamic stall. While the loss of speed was identified as the reason for the accident, the specific underlying reason why the aircraft lost its velocity was not established.
