What happened
During the landing phase at Chita-Kadala Airport, the aircraft experienced a structural failure of its right main landing gear. As the plane touched down, the collapse of the gear caused the right wing to make contact with the runway surface. The momentum of the impact forced the aircraft to slide several yards along the pavement before veering off the right side of the runway, where it eventually came to a stop.
Despite the severity of the excursion and the resulting damage to the airframe, there were no casualties among the passengers or crew. All 32 occupants remained uninjured during the incident. However, the impact and subsequent slide resulted in the aircraft being declared a total loss, as it was damaged beyond repair.
Findings
Investigations into the mechanical failure determined that the collapse of the right main landing gear was triggered by the failure of the kingpin arm within the folding brace mount. This component failure was attributed to a manufacturing defect present in the part.
