Air Baltic scraps planned Liège flights to Canary Islands

Air Baltic has scrapped the winter flights it had planned from Liège Airport to the Canary Islands, the airport confirmed to a Belgian outlet. The Latvian carrier had intended to start twice-weekly service to Tenerife South from October 27 and to Gran Canaria from October 29.

The routes had already been cut back once before. In early August, Air Baltic reduced the planned frequency from four weekly flights to two, citing weak bookings. Now the airline has dropped the connections from its winter schedule altogether.

For Liège, the cancellation is a setback. The airport had hoped the flights would mark a return of regular passenger traffic, something it has lacked since Tuifly withdrew in January. It remains a major cargo hub, though, ranking among the five busiest in Europe by freight volume.

The decision fits into a wider overhaul at Air Baltic. According to the coverage, the financially strained airline is shifting its focus toward stability rather than expansion, and plans to concentrate its network more heavily on its Riga base. It also intends to shrink its fleet of Airbus A220-300 aircraft from 54 to around 36 by the end of 2026.
