Air Tahiti Nui plans cabin overhaul for its Boeing 787 fleet
Air Tahiti Nui intends to refit the cabins of its four Boeing 787s from 2028, adding Starlink internet and more business class seats, pending financing approval.
Air Tahiti Nui is preparing to overhaul the cabins of its four Boeing 787 aircraft starting in 2028, according to a report cited by the airline's home broadcaster TNTV News. The project is estimated to cost 8.5 billion CFP francs, roughly 71 million euros, and would be funded through a loan from French Polynesia.
The plan still needs approval from the territorial assembly before it can move forward.
Under the proposal, the carrier would install new seats and updated cabin interiors. High-speed internet service via Starlink is also part of the package. Business class capacity would grow from 30 to 38 seats as part of the refit.
Air Tahiti Nui said the upgrade is meant to strengthen its competitive position and boost revenue. The airline is targeting a return to profitability by 2029.
The carrier's current 787 fleet is expected to stay in service until it is eventually replaced sometime between 2034 and 2036, according to the report.
