Air Canada removes A321XLR from Toronto-Heathrow before first flight
Air Canada reassigned its new Airbus A321XLR off the Toronto-London Heathrow route before it operated, restoring widebody service on the sector.
Air Canada took delivery of its first Airbus A321XLR in April 2026, making it the first Canadian operator of the type. The aircraft is the first of 30 on order and is laid out with 182 seats in two classes.
On June 15 the airline put the type into international service with a Montreal to Toulouse route. Twelve routes were planned for the year. Nine of them were secondary European destinations that no widebody in the fleet could serve profitably, according to the airline.
Schedule filings had also assigned the A321XLR to Toronto Pearson International Airport to London Heathrow from August 31 through October 22. That plan changed before the first flight operated: Air Canada pulled the aircraft off the sector and brought widebody service back.
