American Airlines refits 777-300ERs with more premium seats
American Airlines has refurbished its Boeing 777-300ER fleet with a higher proportion of premium seating, part of a broader industry shift toward premium cabins.
American Airlines has finished refreshing its Boeing 777-300ER fleet, adding more premium seats as it competes with Delta Air Lines and United Airlines. The new layout has 70 business class suites, 44 premium economy seats, and 216 economy seats. At a Dallas-Fort Worth airport event on 2 September, American's chief commercial officer Nat Pieper said he has never felt an aircraft has too many premium seats.
US carriers are expanding premium offerings. Allegiant Air, Frontier Airlines, and JetBlue Airways are adding domestic first class products. Alaska Airlines is preparing to launch long-haul business class and premium economy. Delta and United are refreshing their business class suites. American also plans to add extra-legroom economy seats to narrowbody aircraft and expand domestic first class cabins.
Premium seat capacity in the USA grew nearly 23% to 78 million seats in 2025, according to the report.
