Cologne/Bonn and Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen airports sign partnership
The two airports have agreed a strategic partnership, signed as a memorandum of understanding in Istanbul, covering operations, digitalisation and the joint development of new routes.
Cologne/Bonn and Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen airports signed a memorandum of understanding in Istanbul on 30 September 2026, setting out a strategic partnership.
The agreement covers regular exchanges on airport operations, digitalisation, new technologies, security and sustainability. Staff from both airports are to take part in reciprocal placements, and the two intend to work together on developing new air connections.
Up to seven daily flights already link Cologne/Bonn and Sabiha Gökçen, roughly 40 services a week. Cologne/Bonn expects around 2.6 million passengers on its Turkey routes in 2026.
The partnership follows the twinning arrangement between Cologne and Istanbul, in place since 15 March 1997.
