Oshkosh runs five-day maintenance training for ARFF vehicle technicians

Oshkosh Airport Products runs five-day maintenance and troubleshooting courses for technicians who service aircraft rescue and firefighting vehicles. The courses are held at its headquarters near Appleton, Wisconsin.

Two five-day technical training courses cover the Gen 2 and Gen 3 Striker ARFF. Each addresses a different area of the vehicle. Instruction combines instructor-led discussion, hands-on exercises and simulated maintenance problems, with the aim of giving technicians skills they can apply to equipment at their own airports.

According to the company, most technicians take both courses to build a broader understanding of the vehicles they support. Others choose the single course that matches their responsibilities or the systems they want to study more closely.

Todd Knorr, senior manager of product training and technical publications, oversees the team that develops and delivers the courses. The company says the training is intended to prepare technicians to keep the specialised apparatus operational and to trace faults when an issue arises.
