Colombia air traffic reaches 39.4 million passengers through August 2026

Colombia's airlines and airports handled 39.4 million passengers between January and August 2026, up 4.6% on the same period in 2025, according to the analytical office of Aerocivil, the country's special administrative civil aviation unit. August alone accounted for 5.1 million travellers through the country's terminals.

For the twelve months from September 2025 to August 2026, the market reached 59.2 million passengers, 3.4% more than the preceding annual cycle. Domestic flights carried 22.3 million people in the first eight months of the year, a 4.9% rise year on year. Aerocivil said the figures point to continued consolidation of connectivity between Colombia's regions.

Events outside the sector's control affected operations at several regional terminals in August. Cali, Armenia and Quibdó recorded a combined increase of close to 3% in passenger movements against August 2025 despite the effects of an earthquake, in line with the national average. Pereira's Matecaña International Airport went the other way, reporting a 58% contraction in passenger traffic for August 2026 compared with the same month a year earlier, which the source attributes to damage to its airport infrastructure.
