Embraer EMB 120 lands on its belly at Kilimanjaro after zebra strike
An Embraer EMB 120 diverted to Kilimanjaro Airport in Tanzania and landed with its gear retracted after a collision with a zebra during take-off. The airport closed for about five hours, and an investigation has been opened.

An Embraer EMB 120 landed on its belly at Kilimanjaro Airport in Tanzania on Sunday, 4 October. Its landing gear could not be extended.
The aircraft, registered 5H-HLL, was flying from Seronera in the Serengeti to Zanzibar when it struck a zebra during take-off, according to a newspaper account. The crew diverted to Kilimanjaro because of problems with the landing gear.
The same account suggests the collision may have damaged the gear, which later failed to deploy. The zebra died.
Kilimanjaro Airport closed for about five hours after the occurrence and resumed operations at around 16:30. The Tanzania Civil Air Accident Investigation Branch has begun an investigation.
