Emirates Cleared to Serve Berlin After Bilateral Agreement

Germany has approved Emirates flights to Berlin, adding a fifth German destination under a bilateral agreement announced during a state visit by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The airline already serves Munich, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, and Hamburg. The new rights cover an agreed number of connections, though frequencies were not detailed.

The announcement came alongside a UAE commitment to invest an additional 40 billion euros in Germany. Both governments described the decision as a step toward expanded cooperation. The German aviation industry objected immediately.

The Bundesverband der Deutschen Fluggesellschaften, which represents German airlines, called the plan a liquidation of German jobs and a further blow to its members. Michael Engel, a representative of the association, said the organization was dismayed by the lack of consideration for German airlines and their employees.

No timeline for the start of Berlin services was given, and Emirates has not yet commented publicly on the new route plans.
