Emirates SkyCargo has flown two Belgian Shepherd dogs from London to Harare via Dubai to help combat poaching in Zimbabwe. The dogs, named Vega and Kuda, will form the first specialised dog unit in Matusadona National Park. Their role is to assist rangers in tracking human scent trails.
Since arriving, the dogs have completed more than 185 training hours with six handlers, including over 60 exercises in tracking human scent. Emirates SkyCargo worked with the British organisation Dogs 4 Wildlife on the transport. The freight carrier said it has long supported efforts against illegal wildlife trade.
