German air traffic control deploys drone detection at Hamburg and Stuttgart airports

DFS has installed a new drone detection system at Stuttgart and Hamburg airports, bringing the number of major German airports with such technology to seven out of eight, according to the transport ministry.

Deutsche Flugsicherung (DFS) has begun operating a new drone detection system at Stuttgart Airport. The system is designed to identify drones in approach and departure areas at an early stage and to notify the relevant authorities of possible risks to air traffic. The same detection system is now also in use at Hamburg Airport.

With Stuttgart and Hamburg equipped, seven of Germany's eight major commercial airports now have such a solution covering their approach and departure areas, according to federal transport minister Steffen Bilger. The systems are intended to help detect drones more quickly and to assess potential dangers to air traffic at an early stage.
