Venezuela opens temporary domestic arrivals terminal at Maiquetía airport

A new temporary domestic arrivals facility has opened at Simón Bolívar International Airport, which serves Caracas, with the government saying it will speed up passenger processing and free space for international flights.

Venezuela's acting president, Delcy Rodríguez, and transport minister Francisco Garcés opened a Temporary Domestic Arrivals Terminal on Saturday at Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía, which serves Caracas.

The transport ministry said the new area is intended to speed up arrivals and improve passenger flow at the country's main air gateway.

The facility covers 1,230 square metres and can handle 1,633 passengers a day. It is for travellers on domestic routes only.

The ministry said the space was fitted out to give passengers a more comfortable, safe and efficient service, and that opening it would ease pressure on other parts of the provisional terminal, freeing room for international operations.

Rodríguez said the project would allow more international flights by expanding arrival capacity. Air connectivity is picking up, she said, with more air links and more airlines flying to Venezuela.

The government calls the module an immediate operational adjustment at Maiquetía, aimed at moving domestic traffic through the airport more smoothly.
