Japan Airlines seeks approval to adjust international fuel surcharges
Japan Airlines and subsidiary Japan Transocean Air have applied to Japanese authorities to change fuel surcharges on international tickets, with the new amounts intended for tickets issued between 1 November and 31 December 2026.

Japan Airlines and its subsidiary Japan Transocean Air want to adjust the fuel surcharges on international tickets, and have filed a request with Japanese authorities to do so. The application says the new amounts would apply to tickets issued between 1 November and 31 December 2026.
The figure comes from the average Singapore kerosene price of 159.19 dollars per barrel in August and September 2026. At an average exchange rate of 157.61 yen to the dollar, that equals 25,089 yen.
Under the standard calculation model, that price would put the surcharge at tier T. JAL and JTA are applying the lower tier S instead, citing state support measures linked to the situation in the Middle East.
The actual amount depends on the individual international route. The adjustment still needs regulatory approval.
