WestJet cabin crew approve new labour agreement
Flight attendants at WestJet have ratified a second collective agreement with union CUPE, ending a period of labour tension at the Canadian carrier.
WestJet cabin crew have voted to approve a new contract with the Canadian Union of Public Employees, the airline said. It is the second such deal reached with the union representing the carrier's flight attendants.
The contract updates pay structures for cabin crew, according to WestJet. The airline did not disclose specifics on duration, salary figures, or other terms.
WestJet also acknowledged that passengers had faced disruptions during the labour dispute that preceded the agreement, and thanked customers for their patience. The company gave no further detail on the nature or length of those disruptions.
The Calgary-based carrier employs more than 15,000 people. Together with its partner airlines, it operates over 600 flights daily to more than 275 destinations, according to the company.
