Accident Details
During the landing roll, the nose gear of the aircraft collapsed. The pilot stated that the landing was normal until the nose wheel was lowered, at which point the gear shook violently and subsequently collapsed.
Witness Account
A witness, who is a certified flight instructor, reported observing the aircraft land and bounce approximately three times before coming down hard on the nose gear. This hard impact preceded the collapse.
Examination Findings
A post-accident examination of the nose gear assembly revealed evidence consistent with an overstress type failure. No other mechanical discrepancies were noted in the initial inspection.
Pilot Remarks
The pilot, who had flown the same aircraft prior to the accident flight, reported that no discrepancies or abnormalities had been observed during previous operations.
