Incident Overview
A pilot reported that while landing into the setting sun, her approach had a relatively low angle of attack. She stated she was trying to get the sun out of her eyes, to no avail. The airplane touched down on the displaced threshold of the landing runway. Upon touchdown, the pilot immediately realized that the concrete was torn out ahead. The airplane then impacted a 55-gallon drum and skidded into an excavated area of the displaced threshold.
Notice of Construction
The construction on the displaced threshold was included in NOTAMs and the ATIS information. The pilot stated that she listened to Peoria ATIS and heard mention of construction on Runway 31, but because construction had been ongoing since spring, she did not pay any more attention.
Markings
The displaced threshold and construction areas were marked appropriately.
