Occurrence
A Piper PA-60-602P aircraft was conducting a private/pleasure flight from Eastern Sierra Regional Airport (KBIH) in Bishop, California, to Nanaimo Airport (CYCD) in British Columbia. While on an instrument approach to Nanaimo Airport, the aircraft collided with terrain on Gabriola Island, British Columbia. All three people aboard were fatally injured.
Investigation
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada conducted a class 4 investigation, which is limited in scope. Class 4 investigations may contain limited analysis but do not include findings or recommendations. The investigation was completed within 220 days.
