Introduction
On July 17, 2022, a privately-registered Bellanca Citabria floatplane was operating a visual flight rules flight from Trois-Rivières Airport (CYRQ), Quebec, to a dock on the Saint-Maurice River in Shawinigan, Quebec.
Sequence of Events
While flying over the intended landing site on the Saint-Maurice River, the aircraft struck the wire of a power line that crossed the river. Following the initial impact with the power line, the aircraft struck the river in an inverted position.
Damage and Injuries
The aircraft was destroyed in the accident. The pilot, who was the sole occupant, was fatally injured.
Investigation
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) conducted a class 4 investigation into the occurrence. Class 4 investigations are limited in scope and do not contain findings or recommendations. The investigation was completed within the standard timeframe of 220 days.
