What happened
A cargo operation traveling from Farikha to Naryan-Mar ended in a fatal accident during the initial climb phase. The aircraft was transporting 1,155 kilograms of fish at the time of the incident. While ascending to an altitude of approximately 60 meters at a speed of 110 km/h, the crew deactivated the aircraft lights. Within several seconds of this action, the flight crew lost control of the plane. The aircraft entered a left bank of roughly 20 to 25 degrees before the nose pitched down, leading to an impact in an icy field situated 1,124 meters beyond the runway threshold. The impact and subsequent fire caused the total destruction of the airframe. There were two fatalities among the crew.
Findings
Investigators were unable to reach a definitive conclusion regarding the accident because the wreckage was too severely damaged to allow for a detailed analysis of the engine or its internal components. However, investigators did not dismiss the possibility that the pilot-in-command experienced spatial disorientation following the deactivation of the lights.
