What happened

On a scheduled agricultural mission for the "Peredolski" state farm, an An-2 was performing crop spraying operations near Zaupory in the Batetski district of the Novgorod region. While operating at a low altitude, the aircraft experienced a sudden loss of engine power.

Following the loss of propulsion, the aircraft descended rapidly and struck the roof of a horse stable. The impact caused the plane to come to a stop on the banks of the Luga river, situated near Rechka. The accident resulted in two fatalities, as both members of the flight crew perished in the crash.

Findings

Investigations into the mechanical failure determined that the engine ceased functioning due to soot accumulation within the inlet valves.
