What happened
During a local training session at Cairo International Airport, a flight crew consisting of an instructor, a captain, and a student pilot was performing a series of maneuvers. After completing five successful touch-and-go operations, the crew began a sixth maneuver designed to simulate an engine failure. The objective of this specific procedure required the trainee to bring the aircraft to a full stop on the runway before applying power for a takeoff with one engine non-functional.
As the aircraft type climbed to an altitude of approximately 50 meters following liftoff, it entered a steep right bank, reaching a 90-degree angle. This loss of control led to the aircraft impacting the ground near the runway shoulder. The impact resulted in the total destruction of the plane and caused three fatalities among the crew.
Findings
Investigations into the accident revealed that the pilot-in-command did not adhere to established takeoff protocols, specifically by utilizing an incorrect takeoff configuration. Furthermore, the investigation identified a lack of adequate supervision from both the instructor and the captain as a significant contributing factor to the outcome.
