What happened
During a scheduled flight from Cairo to Damascus, an aircraft operating at cruising altitude vanished while traversing the Mediterranean Sea. The vessel lost control during its transit, leading to a crash into the ocean under undetermined conditions. Following the disappearance, search and rescue operations were initiated to locate the wreckage and any potential survivors.
Search teams eventually located various pieces of debris approximately 180 km south of the Cyprus coastline. Despite these efforts, the primary wreckage of the plane was never retrieved from the seabed. The incident resulted in 40 fatalities, as no individuals on board were found alive.
Findings
Official investigations into the crash concluded that the specific reason for the loss of control could not be established. Because there was a significant lack of physical evidence available to investigators, the precise circumstances leading to the impact remain unconfirmed.
