What happened
The incident occurred during the initial climb phase, shortly after the aircraft departed from Townsville Airport. During this critical stage of flight, the left engine experienced a sudden failure. This mechanical issue forced the crew to initiate an emergency landing procedure.
Unable to return to the airfield or reach another suitable landing zone, the aircraft impacted the ground in a wooded area located at Cape Pallarenda, situated a few kilometers north of the airport perimeter. The impact resulted in the complete destruction of the airframe. All three individuals on board sustained injuries during the crash.
Findings
The official investigation identified engine failure as the primary cause of the accident. This mechanical malfunction occurred while the aircraft was still at a low altitude and speed, limiting the crew's options for a safe recovery.
