What happened
The incident occurred while the aircraft were engaged in a local training exercise at Mallala Airport. The accident involved two twin-engine airplanes. Shortly after taking off, one of the aircraft collided with a second RAAF Avro 652 Anson registered A4-6. Both planes were carrying crews of two individuals each.
Following the mid-air collision, both aircraft lost control and crashed in the vicinity of the runway. The impact resulted in fatal injuries to all personnel on board. In total, four crew members were killed in the accident. The victims included members from the 6th SFTS.
